Washington accuses 3 Chinese officers of being behind the hacking attacks against Microsoft

The United States has officially accused China of being behind the recent hacking attacks that hit Microsoft, with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken saying that entities linked to China's Ministry of State Security are responsible for the spying operations that exploited "holes".

A statement by the US State Department on Monday said that the charges relate to 3 officers of the Chinese Ministry of State Security, explaining that there are other threats from Beijing in the field of cyber security.

In June, Microsoft announced that an attacker had gained access to one of its customer service agents, and then used information from that to launch hacking attempts against customers.

Microsoft said the attacks were part of a "Nobelium" campaign that focused heavily on IT companies and governments around the world.
