5.4% increase in the amount of fish production in 2019

Today, Wednesday, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics issued the annual bulletin of fish production statistics in 2019. Among the most important indicators, the total amount of fish production reached 2 million tons in 2019 compared to 1.9 million tons in 2018, an increase of 5.4%, and fish farms ranked first in terms of production It reached 79.7%, followed by the lakes production with 10.8%, the marine water production with 4.9%, the fresh water with 3.8% and finally the rice fields with 0.8% of the total production.


Fish production in fish farms reached 1.62 million tons in 2019 compared to 1.54 million tons in 2018, an increase of 4.9% over the previous year, due to the increase in the number of fish farms.


The bony fish group (tilapia, mullet, sea bass, moussa, coral...) is ranked first in fish production with a rate of 98.0%, followed by other species and crustaceans (shrimp, crab,..) with 0.8% each, followed by Lungs (snails and oysters) by 0.2%, then cartilaginous fish and mollusks (squid) by 0.1% each of the total fish production.


The fish production in the new national projects (for fish farming) - Barakat Ghalioun - in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate, of marine fish was 250 tons - of fresh water fish 1800 tons - and shrimp production reached 844 tons), and the production of fry in fish farms in Galion pond of bream reached 0.2 million fry. Of the crickets, 1 million fry, and from shrimp 250 million fry. The production of shrimp in the fish farms of Al-Diba Farm - West Port Said reached 102 tons.
