Putin discusses with Antonio Guterres, the Palestinian-Israeli tension and the situation in Syria

Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, in Moscow, the Palestinian-Israeli tension, the humanitarian situation in Syria, and the strengthening of the role of the United Nations in international affairs.

A statement by the Kremlin press office said that Putin and Guterres discussed the escalation of Palestinian-Israeli tension, as it was indicated that the main task now is to stop the violence from both sides and ensure the safety of civilians.

The statement added that the Russian president expressed his country's support for activating the role of the United Nations in international affairs and stressed the uniqueness of the United Nations in consolidating the interaction of the international community on all major issues existing in the contemporary world.

The Kremlin statement indicated that during the discussion of the humanitarian situation in Syria, concern was expressed about tightening unilateral sanctions against the legitimate authorities of the Syrian Arab Republic, and it was agreed to intensify coordinated efforts by Russia and the United Nations in facilitating the return of refugees and displaced Syrians, providing humanitarian aid, reviving the economy and strengthening infrastructure.
